Sperry Equities / Sperry Commercial Internship

When I first started my career as a real estate agent, I thought selling homes was the end of real estate. I said to myself, “I made it, now it’s all about sales.” Let me tell you, real estate is like a neural network; there are many paths and many directions to take.

I was taking my first real estate class back in Fall 2018 and my professor shared a few job postings. I decided to apply so I can continue funding my real estate expenses. Fast forward to January 2019, I got the internship. My name is Joshua Lee and I am a REALTOR® at Keller Williams Realty on the weekends and Financial Analyst Intern at Sperry Equities / Sperry Commercial on the weekdays. I am a 4th year Business Administration major with a double concentration in Finance and Information Systems.

An overview of Sperry Equities / Sperry Commercial is that Sperry Equities is a full-service commercial real estate investment and management company, specializing in the repositioning of underperforming investment real estate throughout the nation. Sperry Commercial is a full-service commercial real estate firm specializing in investment sales, leasing, property and asset management, as well as 1031 exchange services. Interning in a full-service commercial real estate firm was truly an eye-opening experience. There are so many industries within real estate that I’m back at the point where I have to decide which path I want to pursue. Do I want to go into loans? Do I want to manage properties? As I continue to intern, my choice of which path I want to pursue will become evident.

I highly encourage each and every one of you to get out there and apply for internships. Get some experience, see if you like it, and see if that’s what you want to continue doing. If I could tell you one thing as a takeaway from this post, I would tell you, “classroom lectures are great, but experience is far greater.”
