STAPLES Center Internship

As an avid sports and concert goer, it’s been such an exciting experience to work in one of the world’s renowned sports and entertainment facilities, STAPLES Center. Moreover, having a Marketing, E-commerce, and Social Media Internship with Rank+Rally which is the official retail partner (formerly AEG) for the STAPLES Center has brought me to learn more within my career field in E-commerce Marketing, Retail Marketing, and Sports Marketing collectively.
My name is Janine Kison, a 4th-year Marketing concentration that has had the pleasure to grow in an internship at STAPLES Center in Downtown Los Angeles to promote retail merchandise for major sports teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Kings, and more! I am heavily involved in the creative process and execution of promotional emails and pushing web assets for our sports team’s e-commerce sites and social media. I conduct research to report email and social metrics by tracking consumer engagement rates that helps us draw conclusions on our advertisement strategies. I work closely with our retail partners such as Nike, Mitchell&Ness, Adidas, etc. to build campaigns using their style guides for new product line launches or seasonal collections. I also constantly observe retail trends and stay up to date with our sports teams to comprehend and understand how to market to consumers’ attitudes and behaviors.
In my past experiences in marketing and design, I was familiar with strategizing campaigns, Adobe Photoshop, copywriting, and social media. I also gained knowledge in Retail E-commerce with my past position in FashionNova Corporate where I was exposed to programs such as ORACLE NetSuite and Shopify. When this position opened up, a brother in the fraternity encouraged and recommended I apply to this position. I owe it to this business fraternity that prepared me for my interview, refer to leadership roles I had taken from the organization in my interview, and write professional emails to my interviewer (those follow-up emails go a long way)! Now in my current internship, I am able to combine all my work and leadership experiences to benefit the company.
I am most grateful to work here because it is a reminder to always stay hungry to learn, be passionate in what I do, and to always remember to make the most of an opportunity to grow. I will be graduating this Spring with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing while finishing up my capstone in a 2-week study abroad program in Thailand and Singapore this Summer. As I graduate, I will reflect on the endless support and learning experiences I’ve gained from initiating into this business fraternity in Fall 2016 and that wherever I go, it will always be a chance to grow.
