Dassault Systèmes Internship

My name is Brianna Docena, and I am a 4th year majoring in Business Information Systems. After declaring my concentration in Information Systems, I was very uncertain and unconfident about my decision for multiple reasons. Although technology and the ability to program and understand code has always intrigued me, I began to feel discouraged after struggling to understand anything that was going on in my intro to programming class. In addition to this, I began to question how I would ever land a tech internship when I had zero technical experience, I was barely qualified, and I was trying to stick my foot in an industry full of other qualified individuals. For a while, I debated switching to a concentration less technical and something I was more comfortable with.

However, after talking to some brothers and discussing my concerns, they reassured me that I could do it. With this in mind, I began to apply for internships in the tech industry, despite feeling very under-qualified. After some very disheartening phone interviews, I had one interview that went unexpectedly well. Dassault Systèmes wanted to bring me on board for a 6 month internship.

Dassault Systèmes is a European Software company that focuses on 3D designs and experiences. I currently work under the DELMIA Apriso program as a Technical Customer Support Engineer Intern. The program is a platform that allows industries to virtually experience their global manufacturing operations. With my position, I troubleshoot and resolve any issues that customers may have with the application. Despite only being here for a month, I have learned so much and continue to learn more and more about technology every day. My position has given me the opportunity to see how fascinating technology is and all of the various things you can do with technology. It has also taught me the importance of customer relationships and interpersonal skills.

I am so happy to have the opportunity to work for an amazing company. If there is anything you can take away from this post, its to just go for it. Apply to as many internships as you can. If it is something you’re interested in, apply for it! Even if you feel unqualified. Challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone and put yourself out there; you never know what could happen and it's worth it.
