Human Resources Internship for Bay Cities

Hi Everyone! My name is Olivia Pulido and I am currently an undergraduate student, who will be graduating this spring. I will be graduating with a bachelor’s in Business Administration, and a double concentration in Marketing and Human Resources Management. I am currently interning at Bay Cities in Pico Rivera as a Human Resources Intern. Here at Bay Cities, we are an employee-owned company, which leads in creative packaging and is one of the top display partners with brand marketers, retailers, and e-commerce. Our mission is to fuel our never-ending passion towards continuous growth and creativity.

On the HR team, I get to shadow and learn from a few of the best HR specialists, and see how the HR Department operates in the corrugated industry. Alongside, I am tasked with a variety of projects that helps strengthen and improve my soft and technical skills. A few of the projects I am tasked with is maintaining our HRIS software, sourcing and screening potential candidates for open positions, scheduling and carrying out training sessions, and providing administrative support for the HR Department. Aside from the literal job description, Bay Cities strives for flexible workers where they can grow and improve on other skills aside from their department. Here I have been given the chance to continue my marketing skills by creating flyers and PowerPoint presentations that are used throughout the company for events.

The biggest takeaway from my internship is that every day is a new day and you must be flexible to the changes that happen overnight. Being in a fast pace industry during a pandemic has been a wild ride, but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I have learned and grown so much in my professional life while being apart of a wonderful team here at Bay Cities, and I could not be any happier!

My advice for anyone who is trying to pursue a career in Human Resources is to do your research on the company you want to work at and build connections with others who are pursuing the same goal as you. Building a network with like-minded people can not only give you valuable advice and information, but will also motivate you to pursue all the goals you have no matter how big or small they are. Some other advice I have is to always take risks and apply for internships! You will gain amazing knowledge in the career you are trying to pursue that can't be learned in class and will see if this is the right path for you. Always go in with an open mind and learn everything you can while you're there. Lastly, just remember we, as your peers, brothers, and friends, are all rooting for you to achieve your goals and will always be there to motivate you and celebrate your achievements!
